The total distance from the front of the clamp (say the front part of the handle of the bbq) to the very end of the light is 51/2 inches.
And to answer your question.
From the back of the clamp where it clamps on to the handle to the light is 5 inches not counting the light.
From the front of the clamp where it clamps on to the handle to the light is 4 inches not counting the light.
Total length as quoted first with the light pointing down with the lid of the bbq open is 7 inches.
Total length of just the clamp and shaft not counting the light is 5 inches.
